THE HALIBURTON RED WOLVES

For several years now the Haliburton Red Wolves have been curling every Monday afternoon from 4 pm to 5:30 pm. About 13 athletes make up two Special Olympic teams. Most athletes are accompanied by either a parent or caregiver. They range in age from 11 to 64 years old.

Coached by Bruce Fisher, Dave Piercy and John Kellett, they practice skills and participate in games amongst themselves. The Minden Curling Club donates the ice time. Equipment (including mandatory headgear) is provided by the Haliburton Special Olympics Organization. Twice yearly the Red Wolves attend outside bonspiels in Weston and Gravenhurst. This year on Saturday November12, Minden Curling Club will host a Special Olympics spiel. The Red Wolves will curl against teams from Weston, Durham, Lindsay and Gravenhurst.

Bruce Fisher and Dave Millington have biked to Newfoundland to raise funds, over $18,000 so far, which goes completely to the Haliburton Special Olympics. If you wish to contribute you should contact Bruce at heyjudefish@sympatico.ca or telephone Yvette Brauer at (705) 488-2282.
